Welcome to Ruth and Craig’s travel blog. We’re spending a month in France in October 2013, and we’d love to have you share the trip with us. Comments are welcome (and appreciated).
This is a much needed (and wanted) holiday. A chill-out. We’re visiting a fair bit of France, with just a wee trip to London. Here’s the map (usual disclaimers apply, subject to change, YMMV).
A. Paris (hidden below L.) Where better to start and end? La Ville-Lumière (The City of Light). A place of romance and love.
B. Givors – Craig worked here in 1972, and would like to visit the town again. Knowing full well, of course, that he won’t recognize a thing, but he will think he’s visiting an old haunt.
C. Sète – Known as the Venice of Languedoc and the singular island (in Paul Valéry‘s words), a port and a seaside resort on the Mediterranean with its own very strong cultural identity, traditions, cuisine and dialect.
D. Montpellier – We’re going to a French language school each morning for two weeks, with private lessons.
E. Bruguières – a small town near Toulouse, we’ve managed to book tickets for an Elaine Elias concert.
F. Montpellier
G.
Millau – This is the site of the world’s most famous viaduct. We’re going there as Ruth always wanted to see it, and Craig has entered a 19k mountain race, part of the weekend long Festival des Templiers.
H. Meyrueis – a quaint, small town where we’ll stay for the Millau weekend, in a small chambre d’hôte.
I. Nice – a few days on the fabled Cote d’ Azur, just taking in the sun and sea. Oh, and the wine and cheese. Oh, and the jazz and museums. Well, you get the idea.
J.
Annecy – up in the Alps, by a lake, perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of Europe. France’s nomination for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
K. Dijon
L. Paris
Somwhere in there will be a couple of days in London.
We’ll update the blog as often as possible – if we have something interesting to say or show!
